Audio Books Fixed

I’ve gotten word from Audible that they have fixed the pronunciation inconsistencies in books 1 & 2. If you re-download the books, you should get the new versions.

  1. So does that make the originals collector editions?

13 days left until book 3! Can’t wait!

Yes it would actually. I have a older version of the martian before it was picked up by a publisher. I love the fact that in my version of the audio book there is a slightly different ending that was taken out of the book. It has the main character cussing at a young child back on earth. I was so confused the first time I re downloaded the book and it ended. I thought I was going insane because it ended before that scene. Luckily, I still had a copy of the old version to prove I was still sane.

So ya keep old audio book versions if you can.

      1. 10 days left… feel like that lady at Mervyn’s saying “open… open… open…”

        1. I thought I was the only person who still remembered that ad!

      2. Wait what? Any way we can get access to that?!?

Naomi found a reddit with the ending quoted if your interested. It is a harsh ending but I liked it, if only because it hints at Mark having PTSD. Though I definitely understand why it was taken out.

          Hope you find it interesting.

  2. Just listened to books 1 and 2 on my journey to my in-laws for vacation. Loooooooved it. Love the world jumping storyline. Enjoying the new baddies and how you left it as “pests”. Audible sounds great and the narrator did a great job.

Will book 3 be available in a kindle/audio pair for dirt cheap like the previous 2?

    1. We’re not changing anything for book 3.

Is there a way I can pre-order the pair instead of just preordering the audio or the ebook. I mention this because I realize that I don’t have work the eighth, so I could hypothetically stay up till midnight and listen to the book at 3x speed and be the first consumer to finish! It would be awesome if I could pre-order to make this easier!

        1. I don’t have any control over that. I doubt my publisher does either. Audible and Amazon do what they want to do, and we try not to get underfoot.

    Counting down the time:

Been tiding myself over by bingeing on the Expeditionary Force series.

Its not Expeditionary Force any more. I have renamed it to “Barney and Skippy Fun Time”

  3. “pronunciation inconsistencies in books 1 & 2” … I noticed Archimedes (ar-KIM-uh-dees vs ARKA-mee-dees); but what other inconsistencies were there?

    1. Archimedes, Eridani, and AMI.

It’s odd, they changed the emphasis of Achimedes from the second syllable to the third syllable (which I think sounds better) but changed the emphasis of Eridani from the third syllable to the second syllable (which I think sounds worse).

The pronunciation is still different from book 1 to book 2 as of late August. Also, if possible please ask Amazon not to have lines replaced by a different voice actor – that happens several times in Book 2 and it’s very jarring

      1. The pronunciations in book 2 are correct. Book 1 has been fixed and, as far as I know, you should be able to get the corrected version if you delete and re-download it.

As to the fixed lines, I’ve noticed that effect on some other books I’ve listened to as well. Not sure what the issue is. It’s the same narrator, but maybe the re-recordings are done in a different studio (or maybe not in a studio at all?) so the quality is significantly different.

I just finished books 1 and 2 in 4 days. I have 3 set for pre-order. Out of curiosity how many books are planned for the bobiverse? Does 3 wrap up the story or just for now?

    1. There’s lots of room for future books but the trilogy wraps up the major story lines.

Is the third book going to be available in print? If so, any idea as to when?

Just finished For We are Many and can’t wait to read the next one!

    1. Yes, but it sometimes takes a day or two after release date before the createspace version links up with the amazon e-book. I think it’s up on day zero, but listed independently.

I find myself pausing to googe so many planets and concepts mentioned in the book finding awesome rabbit holes of stuff to explore.

I’m mow telling the world. Keep up the great work. Ray *really* does your work Justice ! Haven’t enjoyed a sci fi novel as much since HHGTTG.

    Thanks !

Hey if you are really into space stuff and want to actually visit some of these places (or ones like it) check out the game Elite Dangerous (https://www.elitedangerous.com/). I’m in no way affiliated with them … but the game is fantastic. Just put on the audio book and go fly around the solar system!

  4. The Bob book are some of my favorite SiFi ever. I am looking forward to the next book and I hope that there are many more to come.

Just FYI, reviews on Audible are reporting that the audiobook for ‘All These Worlds’ is missing the last few chapters. It ends abruptly at chapter 63 when the print book has 76 chapters.

It’s looking like the audiobook for All These Worlds, which was released today, is missing the last 14 chapters! Hopefully they fix that soon.

  5. All These Worlds… quote from Arthur C Clarke?
