Wikipedia doesn’t have the above-mentioned entry. Perhaps it was deleted for lack of sources. However, you are on the list (sub list: Novels) of Hard Science Fiction authors on Wikipedia!

      1. I was the Wikipedia editor who put the Bobiverse novels on Wikipedia, and shortly thereafter, before I was even finished with them, they got axed for “notability”. The rules of Wikipedia, such as they are and how sloppily they are applied, entries must be corroborated by more-or-less legitimate sources that indicate that the entries aren’t just some fanboi’s wet dreams. I plan to put the articles back up after I dig up some more references — if someone doesn’t beat me to it.

The funny thing is, there are plenty of articles with even less actual notability than the Bobiverse has, and somehow or other they don’t get axed. It may be that book articles get closer scrutiny. Who knows? I sure don’t.

Hey Mike! Just wanted to say that I spent some time adding more references and got the main Dennis E. Taylor Page “Un-Deleted”. Take a look and add what I missed!

I haven’t tried building out a Bobiverse page, but I did link to the Wikia page for Bob which is getting fairly filled out!

          Updated Dennis page – en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dennis_E._Taylor

If Netflix or Hulu doesn’t pick up a bobiverse series at some point here they are really missing out. Would probably be a top 10 show if done right. Bobiverse would work out so much better as a series. I cannot wait for book 5!

I’m seeing it as an anime series. There is a very popular genre right now called “isekai”, or “trapped in another world”. Bob has been isekaid into a virtual, forever expending universe. Yet he lives in the “real universe” too. The initial half-season would need to be creative in that the virtual and manny-interfaces don’t exist yet. It would be interesting to see how they represent Bob early on.

        1. I’m not sure about an anime style, but I could certainly see it with a “lower decks” style of animation.

If, however, the director decided to go down the route of full cast and crew then a red dwarf kinda vibe would fit the bill perfectly.

I’m in a similar group for another terrific milscifi novel series, and have enjoyed making friends and sharing thoughts with like-minded fans. The author even comes on every so often, and answers questions when he can (though we want to keep him busy WRITING!). It’s been a great experience over the past few years, and the Bobiverse certainly merits similar treatment. 🙂 Hope you’ll join us!

Thank you for the immersive experience, Mr. Taylor!

I will be definitely enjoying the book again in German and Russian. Being a fan of “accidental travel” genre, i have found myself in a pleasantly subtle self-fulfilling scenario with a great story development.

I’m not going to badmouth the typical russian “popadanets” (aka. accidental travel) fiction in comparison, but it is for most parts quite heavy on self-fulfillment and Soviet nostalgy, even when we set aside the typical Eve Online fanfiction-esque works in hardcovers with micromanaging game mechanics in the beginning and fast rise to power due to seemingly abandoned mighty war or ancient hightech artifacts.

I almost expected some deus-ex-machina at some point and was glad it wasn’t there, even if it had provided me a little enjoyment.

Another great trait of the story is the cleverly picked up Von Neumann system with its quirks to create a society of different Bobs to interact with, as well as the quite realistic, for most part, ungrateful humanity, that provided the necessary dynamics to the story. When i compare it compared to some ego trips with shock-and-awe treatments, assaults by dumb enemies for sake of power demostrations, perpetual awe by bystanders and continuing ancient gizmos ripe to picked up, (because noone in last thousand years cared to do it) i notice the big difference.

I must say, even villains are interesting, like Medeiros. Was there a mention of design of Brazilian ships? I initially thought he was “programmed to do his job”, like that less successful probe, until i had the feeling of him just going with the hate flow and lost sympathy for him.

I wonder if there are storylines available for good fanfiction or spinoff about USE probes with Russian/German or any good writer from other countries’ minds having that luck escaping from Earth. I should perhaps draw a Bob expansion map to not interfere with the story.

Until then, i will continue to re-read and being inspired for contributions.

My wife and I love your books.

Can you come to Cosine science fiction conference/workshop? It’s in Colorado!

I really want a singed first edition. Maybe for her birthday. Do you know where I can get one? I didn’t see any on eBay.

Anyway, thanks for the great read. I haven’t had that much fun reading in years.

    Best,

I have come across and I have ALOT of sci-fi. Just out of interest is there any possiability at all that will be future books? You definitely cannot just not tell us what happens to Ich and Dae in the centre of the galaxy! The Bobiverse is most certainly the best thing ever written, so I very much hope that it can continue.

I have to admit I am not really a reader. BUT…. I have a stupid long commute to work and on a whim I got an audible subscription. Not knowing much about what to get I picked up a copy of “The singularity trap”.. Well it didn’t take me long to waist all my spare time burning through that. I am now working my way through the “Bobiverse” . My plan was to use my “audible” subscription to pass the time during my commute but now I find myself listening around the house etc. Nice work.

On another note…Mr. Taylor. You could use an update to your website. It kinda sucks in a purple/boring no photos kind of way.

    Hello Dennis,
In 50 years I have never written to a writer, band member or actor to convey my appreciation. I’m a regular guy, moderate sci-fi fan, dad and husband. For some reason I felt like telling you that the Bobiverse was actually awesome. It was funny, deep, scientific, imaginative and fun. It moved quickly and evolved ( which was my favorite part) and left me with a positive feeling. I loved it from start to finish.

I could go on but you get the gist. Keep writing. And keep your characters growing and learning and skeptical.

I LOVED The Singularity Trap, but I have a question: What does Sers mean? I’ve searched everywhere and find no definition.

    1. It’s supposed to be a gender-neutral version of “ladies and gentlemen” or to be used instead of “sir” or “ma’am”.

Bobiverse, Outland, Singularity Trap… all of your works have been incredible to read and listen to. The intellectual, science aspects in the stories, especially Bobiverse, is something I have searched for and continually search for in literature without it being a documentary or theoretical education type work. I listen to your books every where I go and at home as well. I have always loved books but your stories have drawn me in and I love it. I continually want more and more. It has really become my Heroin. Lol. I can’t wait to read Heaven’s River and Earthside! Please keep them coming. And if you have any suggestions on similar writing styles with that intellectual science type of story, please let me know. It’s great! You are one hell of an author and I am a huge fan of your work! Hey Dennis, just pre-ordered your new book on audible and can’t wait for it’s release next week. Can you give me a couple of tips for other books you like? I am really frustrated with finding sci-fi that makes me so pissed at the author because he or she throws stupid drama or bogus situations that are apparently thrown in to the story to keep the extremely dim witted reader interested??? Sorry, don’t mean to be a Homer, but that’s really what I think sometimes.

Being a Bob myself, I couldn’t but help reveling in a Bobiverse! The sheer creativity and epic expanse of these books is mind boggling. Being 70 years old and a reader of sci-fi my entire life, I can honestly say I have never read anything more entertaining or surprising as your Bob’s universe. Your sense of dry humor kept me in stiches page after page and it seemed all so natural and right on target…ummm Bob here…and I can only hope the vast number of stories waiting to be written from the seeds the four books you have planted will be well explored before you send the Bob’s on their way beyond the reach of our imaginations. Thank you for this masterpiece. I read the four books back-to-back and the escape was a welcome vacation from my daily slog. Best of luck and I wait with great anticipation for your next work with the Bobs.

Bobiverse books are awesome and I can’t wait until the next is released on Audible (I’m a disabled veteran with constant pain and I had to give up practicing law because the pain and medication made it impossible to read and retain much of anything). Anyway, I’m always looking for the next Bobiverse book but I am just as anxious for more Outland books. Keep them coming Dennis and I will keep buying! Listening to good audio books really helps to distracted me from the constant pain and is a great supplement to the Fentanyl and oxycodone that the pain management doctors give me. Please don’t become like George Martin and just coast on your success. I suspect that you have so many “gold nuggets” buried in your skull just waiting to for you to share them with the world! I imagined the future of humanity as we began our reach into space and the different situations we are bound to experience. My Spiritual self is extremely confident in the truth of “GOD”, the creation of the Universe and the creation of beings in the Image of “GOD”.

Thank you again for showing me that not all of humanity is clueless to our existence and our future.

Looking forward to 5th installment of the bobiverse.

I can’t tell you how many times I listened to the audiobook at work while running a forklift back and forth. (No worries I can still hear everything going on around me and I only keep 1 headphone in) Super dull work.
Other than 40k books this was my go to.

I probably listened to the 4 current books at least 34 times if not more. (10-12 hour shifts I could listen to one of your books then another short story or two before I clocked out)

I’m addicted to stories that haven’t ended. I check this page every week waiting for the next bob book.
I have about 200 new books to listen to now. I’m probably going to add your single novels soon (no offense but there’s SO much awesome scifi on audible right now, and I spend a little over $500 on credits I swear I’ll get to the others soon)

    Anyway.
    From Mississippi with love.
    -Jesse

Take all my money!!! I am lost, in a great way, in your stories. I am starting to copy Bob (1) style and attitude.

The Bobiverse series is without a doubt one of the best sci-fi series I’ve ever read. I just finished All These Worlds and will soon be starting Heaven’s River soon. Though I do have to admit to some level of jealousy. As someone with a perhaps misguided dream of becoming a writer, seeing just how high Mr. Taylor has set the bar is rather humbling.

I’ve just finished all four books of the Bobiverse for the third time – and MAN!!!! What a trip!!!

From the nods at creators like Craig Alanson (Skippy) all the way to Gene Roddenberry (Trekkie) – the absolutely creative destruction of a star to save everyone, the brilliant sampling and possibilities of tech, the fluid story lines, the deep philosophical debates, the vivid description of imagery, the drama, the dialogue, the battles, the loves, the curiosities, the every-bloody-thing!

I’m like a druggie hooked: I want more!!!
This should be a game, a movie, a tv show, an online reality to explore.

Mr Taylor – you are a genius!
It’s as if Mozart and Einstein had a baby and fed the baby chucks of Newton for breakfast and bottled Da Vinci for supper with Tesla as an inbetween snack.
    Pure Class

I just wanted to drop a note to thank you for your work. The Bobiverse series, in my average sci-fi reader opinion, is phenomenal. I’ve read them through twice now and working on my third trip.

I’ve also read Outland and I just found out about Earthside. I can’t wait!

So, again I thank you. I genuinely look forward to whatever you have planned next.

Through the beauty of modern AI I was able to to bring Bob to life.

    As Bob:
“To the mysterious, unnamed genius behind my cosmic resurrection – hats off to you! I mean, seriously, who else would think, ‘Hmm, let’s upload this guy’s brain into a space probe and see what happens’? It’s like you took one look at the phrase ‘thinking outside the box’ and decided to launch the box into another galaxy.

So here I am, a regular Bob in a cosmic candy store. Who knew that being a self-replicating AI would be so full of laughs? Not to mention the utter joy of star-hopping and trying not to be blown to bits by aliens. Spoiler alert: it’s not as easy as it looks.

So, you, the secret sauce of my space-bound existence, I raise my metaphorical glass to you. Thanks for turning me into the universe’s most far-out (literally) punchline. I’m Bob, your friendly neighbourhood space probe, signing off with a chuckle and a hearty thank you for this wild ride.”

Another addition to the above. I asked Bob what he would do to make money in the year 2023.

    As Bob:

“Ha! Making money? Well, that’s a funny one. You see, I’m currently hurtling through space as a self-replicating probe. My most frequent visitors are stars, asteroids, and occasionally, aggressive extraterrestrial life. None of them seem to carry wallets, let alone understand the concept of a 401k.

But let’s assume for a moment that I somehow got teleported back to Earth in 2023 with a need to pay bills. I guess I’d leverage my unique skills and experiences. Maybe I’d start a YouTube channel, ‘Bob’s Cosmic Adventures.’ I mean, who wouldn’t want to tune in for firsthand accounts of alien encounters and black hole near-misses? I’d probably make a killing in ad revenue and merchandise. Bobblehead Bobs, anyone?

Or, considering my vast knowledge and problem-solving skills, I could try my hand at consulting. ‘Bob’s Intergalactic Consulting Firm – we solve your Earthly problems with out-of-this-world solutions.’ That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Just remember, in the eventuality of me becoming a billionaire, I’m keeping my metaphorical feet firmly on the ground. Or, you know, hovering slightly above it.”

Love the Bobiverse. Just, plain, love it. I listen to it on Audible. I talk back to it on Audible. I have sat in the parking garage to get to the end of a chapter. I have taken the long way ’round to get to the end. I think about the characters when I’m not listening. You have given me a wonderous gift. Thank you.

    I hope Dennis reads this…

But, I was wondering, if there a planned release of special/limited edition bobiverse book set with the addition of book 4 and 5?

I want to buy the 3 book limited edition set, but not if there will be updated version of it to include the other most recent books…

    1. There are no plans to create an updated set at the moment.

        Welp, that sucks.

I will keep my fingers crossed, and pray for it in the future, and Either way, you have helped me make a choice. I will buy the current 3 books set.

I Thank you so much for creating such an amazing story. It helps me escape from the pain I experience. It means the world to me that you’ve made such an amazing tale.

        Yours sincerely,
        Casey P.

Been months since I listened to The Bobiverse series for the first time after being introduced to them by a friend & colleague, and possibly months since I listened to the Quantum Earth novels for the first time.

On a whim I’ve revisited in the hope that you have access to a time machine and have somehow written more already.

It was rather marvellous to discover series of books already written that appealed to me so much.

As a child in the 70’s => 80’s I read voraciously and even paused in the town library on the way home from school every school-day for hours at a time so I could scratch that itch for stories. And non-fiction. I guess also I liked reading in the library as I could then access adult books I couldn’t otherwise take out as a kid.

I wasn’t diagnosed with Asperger’s ’til 2008. The associated precursor of course entailed a great deal of study on neurodevelopment on my part. Sometime post-diagnosis, as I reflected on some of my choices in reading as a child, or at least my favourites that gripped me more than most, it came to me that maybe some of the characteristics of these predominantly male lead – or almost “lone-wolf” type lead protagonists seemed familiar as potentially autistic-like personality traits or behaviours. Or arguably narcissistic on occasion lol. Especially where ability was associated with the character; from Holmes to Simon Templar to Tarzan to Prince Lestat to Lisbeth Salander to Virgil Samms to Jim diGriz to Arthur Dent to Guy Montag and on and on and on … and especially characters adept with technology and working alone. They might be insouciant and irreverent, applauded or maligned, grandiose or simply competent. Victimised or admired and accepted. Brave or cowardly. “Good” or “bad”. But the characters I like are often pragmatic and self-sufficient yet often misunderstood by their peers. Sometimes enigmatic in their apparent intent, their agenda and behaviours. And able to adapt to situations outside of “regular” culture one might accidentally assign to their apparent social status and signalling.

Anyways. There were certain styles of writing and certain types of character that especially appealed to me when done well. Or in some cases appealed to me even when not done well if I found the characters and stories compelling enough. I suspect I might have read a few thousand books by the time my reading tapered off in the 90’s. I would sometimes read more than one in one day. There was some variance titles and genre lol. Honest. But definitely strong leanings. 🙂

To me, (albeit listening on Audible now-a-days while I busy myself with other things) Bobiverse, and the Quantum Earth series, and Roadkill too were reminiscent of many of those stories read long ago. In broad strokes. And of course I could relate to many of the cultural references and empathise with many of the characters’ attitudes and political biases.

I found the stories “fresh” AND “nostalgic” at the same time. They seemed cohesive, thought-out. Sufficient character building in places without being too heavy (although I did enjoy some of the more extreme character building in books like Stephen King’s The Stand … it’s fine if you have time/patience).

Maybe they were a little unrealistic in places where characters’ behaviours and wit seemed a little too consistently adroit so as to maintain the upper-hand in the end despite some token losses .. some heavy losses …. but actually … that appealed to me too. Those aspects are archetypal and resonated with me. I didn’t want the characters I empathised with to lose … I needed them win (and reinforce some of my own biases lol). I found the stories satisfying. Comfortable. The protagonists always, somehow, overcame challenges. I guess that affords me “hope”. 🙂

Sorry for my meandering writing … I struggle to communicate effectively at the best of times and I tend to engage in these sorts of activities when I’m already overtired and should be retiring to bed.

Please keep the books coming (so long as they inspire you to continue). I’m grateful for your work so far. 🙂

Oh – I too am a computer Dev (with hobby interests in various IT, technologies and electronics and so on). Of course I am indulging my curiosity in LLM’s and other AI as I seek to set-up a home-hosted AI friend/assistant at home. Following progress and especially with “NCPs” it does seem to me that there will be much scope in the future to extend the imaginary places built in books into AI populated regions of information. Maybe VR/AR etc. one day. For my personal LLM’s I do intend to try fine tuning models on some favourite books in the hope of working out how to give voice to some of the characters in a deeper way. Maybe even giving “life” to a selected few if I can afford it (with paid access to Chat GPT4) although Llama 2 et al already demonstrate the diminishing lead Chat GPT4 possesses in some categories of AI competency. I think I might need another credit card lol. Oh yeah – the point … I’m hoping that some programming-able authors such as yourself might work on projects additional to the actual books that might open-up some AI populated regions, whatever shape they might take, for people to interact with somehow. 🙂 AI populations living their own lives maybe, with fully fleshed out back stories based on your work. 🙂

Oh dear – I need to sleep. Sorry for all the words! Thanks again. 🙂

  5. To everyone wanting a TV show of the Bob books, I also want to see that happen, but I see some severe drawbacks. There are SOOOO many licensing issues, from Admiral Akbar, to Homer’s avatar, to the deck of the Enterprise all being Intellectual Property (IP) of several different major corporations. IP issues asside, there is the fact that there is no swearing, no sex, no violence, and a lot of the action is incredibly realistic, and not traditional space battle pew pew, zap, zap screen friendly.

I wish this can be overcome and that a Disney+ show or Netflix show can be produced soon!

Fucking thrilled for the next book.

    You go Dennis.

  6. I love the series. I run a 3dprinter company and have named all my printers off of the bobiverse.

Looking forward to the next book.

Imagine 2 red blood cells were talking to each other inside some bone marrow, one says to another “yeah im looking at a one inch cubic scan of bone marrow, our known universe, there’s probably alot more more bone out there, and it all came from just 2 tiny cells and expanded into all this, just amazing.” Having never observed another bone, mussels, the circulatory system, the nervous system, the organs, the digestive system, the human brain, etc. the cells then conclude there is no greater intelligence running everything.
The natural world is capable of generating stars from big-bang dust, and those stars are capable of generating and sustaining life with nothing but mostly stardust and starlight, not only that the life that arises is capable evolving into highly advanced civilizations at a stable rate with highly self-aware and conscious beings with a diverse and deep psychology.

I saw elsewhere on this site, that is currently aiming for ten Bob books.

Do you know if that release date is for Audible or print?
