Seiun Award Nomination

So this is pretty cool. We are Legion has been nominated for a Seiun Award Nomination, which is the Japanese equivalent of a Hugo. Here’s the link to the news: https://locusmag.com/2019/04/2019-seiun-awards-nominees/

And a screenshot:

I should note that I found out about this when my saved Google Search for “We are Legion” coughed up the link.

I saw that the preorder for Outland is out. And I just so happen to have a credit unused.

The whole series is incredible. I go back and read parts, chuckling over the Bobs and their self-deprecating childishness as they face incredibly challenging stuff out there. The closest thing I’ve ever found to it is Martha Wells’ Murderbot series. Hats off and thanks to both you and her!!

  2. “This project has taught me, though, that I need more discipline in my writing, so Iā€™m going to start imposing deadlines on myself. ” — Status of Things 2019-12-02

    Don’t do it.
Not deadlines anyway. If you want more discipline do it on the front end with your daily schedule. Or with your work environment. Was it Elmore Leonard who had a separate cottage for writing?

If you’re looking for sheer productivity, there’s an adventure fiction writer from the mid-1900s (don’t have the name) who talked his manuscripts. Phenomenal productivity. Resultant rough too rough? Writing is rewriting.

Deadline ā†’ stress, burnout or catch a bad cold. A novel is too big a project. You can get into a situation where writing every waking hour of the day won’t be enough. Burning the candle at both ends for more days than you are able, won’t be enough.

Look at your manufacturing line first before building a wall to hit.

    1. “Deadlines” is probably the wrong word. Maybe “productivity targets.” I’ve gone entire weeks where I barely touched the keyboard. That’s just damned laziness. I think if I set myself a goal of spending at least 2 hours a day at the keyboard (even if I don’t write for 2 hours) I’ll still be ahead of this hippy-dippy “winging it” thing.

Hot dang! That’s awesome, though I hope you end up getting more awards. I want to see a movie trilogy before my meatware expires. Your work is amazing and aligns with everything I like in science fiction. Thank yoi.

On another note, I imagine bob eventually genetically engineering a host organism that mirrors his von Neuman probe affinity by allowing continuous modification and reproduction via splitting. Probably an organism with a distributed brain formed by highly independent supercells, essentially a ‘cellular slime mold’ on steroids! Could be a cool way for Bob to exist a few thousand years into the future!

    Mr. Dennis E. Taylorl, sir.
I have a quick question, and then lomger commentary.
    Question:
Have you read the Three Body Problem series By Cixin Liu?

Also out of the blue; a friend mentioned the Bobiverse and suddenly I felt like a member of a secret super cool Von Neumann hopeful msocietyb since Castaway is a total fantasy instead of the picture of lonely terror. It was truly a kindred feeling. (I’m laughing now)
I can’t wait for Heavens (river?) The Search for Bender.
Back on topic, The Three Body Problem is complex and worth it.
It is also fascinating to read/hear the prose and how almost poetic some phrases sound. Its directly and phenomenally translated from Chinese which makes it even more beautiful.

Again congratulations on your success. I remember listening to Ray Porter for the first time with We are Legion.
Joe Rogan was just talking about how hes the best narrator he’s heard (for Me, hes the best aside from George Guidall (alive still) and Frank Muller (who passed after an accident in 2001). They’re sentimental reasons. Most memorably in my mind, for the Dark Tower Series. And the Vampire Lestat (Don’t judge me! Lol)
    Ok, rambling done. šŸ˜‰

Now, Let’s get the Bobs and find Bender!!
(Please, do forgive any grammatical mistakes as well as any spelling errors)
