OUTLAND is in the can

Yesterday, my editor accepted my latest version of Outland with no more modifications. That means, barring something from the copyeditor, I’m done. Now it goes into Audible’s queue, where (among other things) they will get it narrated and produced.

And yes, Ray Porter will be doing it. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, Audible likes to keep author/narrator teams together. And I would be happy to wait if Ray’s schedule required a long lead time or some such.

And this means that I’m now back to writing the next Bobiverse book(s), working title “The Search for Bender.” I say book(s) because it looks like it’s going to be a duology. And spoiler alert — the end of book one will be a cliff-hanger, and a doozy. Bob and the Bill Wonder will be tied to the front of a Zamboni, while the Penguin and his henchmen–er, no, wait, I’m having a flashback. Sorry.

So stay tuned–same Bob-time, same Bob-channel–for more updates as they happen.

  1. Looking forward to an updated Outland… I have a copy of the old book… it’s not bad, The Bobiverse forced me to order it.

Wondering if any of the characters will be named for other star trek characters? KhAAAAAAAAn… I keep wanting to scream it.

Zamboni is a such a funny word that any time you can find a way to use it is a huge win for me. It would be a great name for a testy, all-male alien species.

But you really need to get back to the Bab-a-verse, I am having withdrawals and it is getting serious! šŸ˜‰

I gave my brother your Bob Legion Series Audio Books for Christmas from Apple iTunes. He works at Boeing … Anyway, he has been listing to the series and so have all of his Co-Workers and now they have all started to buy the books them selfs.

So if you see an uptick in sales in the Seattle Washington area, it may be my fault! šŸ™‚

    Hi,

I am from Germany but live in the USA.
After I listened to the first book in German I waited 6 month for the 2nd book to be translated and released (12/2018). That wait was horrible. I just got the 3rd in English becaue there isnā€™t an official release date for the German audio book.

When will the 4th book come out? Will there be one because I read that itā€™s a trilogy?
Are there plans to keep it going ? 5th, 6th, etc? I sure hope so.

I really enjoy your books a lot

    1. I am currently working on the 4th and 5th books of the bobiverse.

      German here

Listen to all three books in English again

I’ve ok not listened to the first in German when it came out and when I had 20 or so listen through a of the English books, and the English one is way better

Hell in the German one they have a 24m roamers because they cant calculate correctly

  2. Can’t wait to get my hands (or ears) on both. Haven’t been fanboying so much since ages for more Bobiverse material! Just one thing, I would consider actor per storyline, had to take a break couple of days between the third Bobiverse book and Singularity because the great voice of Ray Porter made a bit of a mix in my head between books šŸ™‚

Hmm.. shouldn’t it be Mr. Freeze with the zamboni instead of the Penguin? I don’t know, it feels like that would be more his shtick.

Anyway, big fan of your work. Looking forward to your next book.

Are there any current updates as to the release timeline for the updated Outland and Earthside books? I too am a Bobiverse fan, but I very much enjoy these other books as well. I read the original physical copy of Outland and enjoyed it very much. I can’t wait to read the updated version of Outland and then the Earthside sequel to my son as he recovers from his chemo treatments! Thank you!

    1. June or July was bandied around for Outland.

I am currently working on The Search for Bender. That’ll probably take until the summer. Then I’ll start work on Earthside. And that will complete my current contractual obligations.

I became so involved I didnā€™t realize the book was going to end! Glad thereā€™s another Outland somewhere in the process.
Will this be a series like Bob?

    Hi Dennis,
I’ve got to be honest, the whole bobiverse trilogy is amazing but the real grabber is the coffee. Every time I grab a cup now I’m transported into the bobiverse, please EXPAND!!! I also appreciated Outland, but really want to kick back with a good cup of Joe and zip through the Galaxy with the Bobs

Have to say, this made life worth living. I suffered a vaccine injury and have had many long drives with a lot of pain into the “big city” and back for appointments as well as long periods bed bound waiting for my body to get out of panic mode. It’s something my hubby and I can listen to together and laugh (with some pain, yes your fault, but I’m not dead yet, haha). Thank you Dennis. I appreciate what a journey this is for you. I’m a doomed writer myself with threads hanging. I have so much appreciation for the ability to hold together all the worlds you create. We have talked about a ven diagram to keep up at times but no worries, it all comes together!

I can only find the Outland sequel on audible, but this blog post says there wasn’t an exclusivity deal and you expected audible format to come out at the same time as other formats. What’s the status of this?

    1. That was an error. I’ve removed the offending paragraph. The 4-month delay applies to everything.

Iā€™m also curious about the quantum earth series! I have listened to the first two so many times now. And am clambering for a third, fourth, fifth and so on.

This needs to be picked up by Netflix or another streaming platform as a multi season series. So much you could do with it!

  3. I want to thank you for writing your books! I have thoroughly enjoy all of them, and absolutely love the Bobiverse.

I hadn’t realized, and very sorry to hear, you’d gotten push back on the Quantum Earth character’s politics. Sadly, it’s a period where a great many people appear to have difficulty separating out fact from fiction, so that even the words of a character becomes some sort of assault. I shouldn’t be too surprised, there’s aways someone who acts like the mear mention of a thought or idea that isn’t theirs is a dire existential threat. I really like the series so far, and hope that they haven’t dissuaded you from continuing it at some point.

Too bad there will be no more Outland. You have a lot of potential there with the alternate earths. I wonder if you could mount the gate in a large dirigible, zeppelin. And get mobility that way. You would have to land the zeppelin to use it. Some of the modern zeppelins are very sturdy and nothing to laugh at. I don’t see why Native American earth has to be primitive. Who knows that could be a back to nature group, the way we used to live, that they saw. It’s hard to believe that they had not advanced further than that in centuries. Unless there were horrific plagues that kept them down. And in that case they would be more dangerous to the Outlander’s than anything else they have faced.

I really like your idea of nonpowered slip gates. It is a simple answer to where the gate could be getting this potential energy that it was demonstrate to have. It slippage between timelines. Think of dragging two pieces of cloth together. Like adjacent sheets on a clothesline. They don’t really go anywhere, but they do a lot of moving around. Nothing and I do mean nothing in all of the multi-verse stands still. Everything everywhere is in motion. That’s a fact Jack. It would be interesting to set up a slip gate. And over a period of time it stores up enough power like a capacitor to actually jump to a different timeline. By itself. That could present for the Outlander’s.

  4. Love the Quantum/Outland and Bobiverse stories. Please continue both series. One thing I noticed is that the timeline in Outland was very compressed. You announced dates in chapter heads which called my attention to it. Man those kids did a lot from one day to the next with few deliberations. I donā€™t know if that affected the story pace. I found myself wanting more dialogue in many of the chapters. Some were very short. When I search for new Audible books I usually prefer books 10 to 20 hours long. But you and Ray still give me a good bang for my Audible credit buck.

I write essays, short stories and poetry. I self published one book ā€œHow to Vote in a Dystopian Societyā€. It was just a test to see if I could do it. I do a lot of contemporary and historical research. Outland shows many examples of human nature which are true; unfortunately. Most of my writings center on that subject. I have a blog but seldom post. Anyway love your books, I look forward to more.

    1. You are one of the few people who have noticed the tight timeline. I keep getting comments like “why didn’t they do this” or “why didn’t they do that”. Well, they’re a little busy.
