The Trilogy is Complete

I opened the box and found 20 of ALL THESE WORLDS. The trilogy is now complete. Waiting for the 8th, and I have to admit I’m sweating a little.

Don’t worry, though. I still have a lot of bobiverse books in me.

    Congratualtions from the east…

With developement of multiple-many charecters and yet each with its quirks and special place
your trilogy works could rival the starwars…
Hopefully you get to turn it into a movie soon…

as a reader of many works or ancient legendary and more recent story writings around the world accross the ages
    your trilogy is quite something…
I personally feel its has much deeper layers than just sci-fi fun reading for the westerners
it has some feel of the three-body problems trilogy series if one thinks deeper
beyond all the human-centric egoistic self-assertion – what is a human? what is a bot?

Have pre-order the last piece of the trilogy…
quite sure its going to be a something… world within worlds…
let see how the end will be …
perhaps an ending for another new begining another new world within worlds 🙂

Great effort and good luck 🙂

      Do we have a problem?

      Saw a comment at audible…
“This audiobook is missing the last 14 chapters. It ends at the end of chapter 63, the kindle version has 76 chapters. The text and the audio are in sync at the end of chapter 63”

I too thought its strange the 3rd is significantly shorter than the first 2.
Can you adress this pls? are we really missing 14 chapters?

      Thanks 🙂

Great to hear that book 3 is on target. In the last weeks, I discovered your three previous books (including Outland) and enjoyed them all. Can’t wait to download the next episode on August 8th.

I have read a lot of s-f in my life and must admit that your books are among my favorites. You have a very lively and entertaining style, the core idea is just great, the Bobs are nice guys (would be nice to have a beer and play baseball with them), the structure and evolution of the story captivating, humor and irony well balanced. Furthermore, each book has been better than the previous one.

So no sweat! This new book will certainly be a hit. Now you just have to find a way to replicate yourself to produce more and more bobiverse books

Dennis, you slay me. So happy to hear the Bobiverse series won’t end with All These Worlds! A friend turned me onto We Are Legion last year, and I must have read the book 5+ times while awaiting For We Are Many. Needless to say, Thank you for the amazing story-telling. I would be honored to shake your hand and buy you a coffee (or at the very least, give a “Hello, thanks, bye” at a book signing if you ever do those 🙂 ). Keep up the great work!

Will future books continue being told from bob’s/versions of bob’s, pov? or will they be about other characters not originating from original bob? or both?

    1. Yes. 😉

  1. Please keep it up Dennis, loving your work! Delighted the bobiverse is not at an end 🙂

  2. Little known fact: my mother, in her 65 years, has never, ever read a science fiction book; however, on our drive to California Redwoods state park near Arcata, CA (put this place on your bucket list.. otherworldly for sure,) we listened to For We Are Many and she was hooked. The plot pace, present day references and humor attracted her to a genre to which she’s never paid much -if any- attention. At her request, bought her the entire series. Idea for you: perhaps something can be done with all those individual, incremental Bob backups to make a unique BOB who has his (their?) own ideas about so many Bobs running about. Bobs vs. BOB. Could be fun.

Hi I’m re-listening to the bob books and I have a question. The Bob that is typically called Bob one is actually not the original Bob replicant but is actually a back up of the original Bob replicant. My question is, since its established that each time Bob replicates his personality alters a little, what personality traits(if any) differentiates Bob One from the original Bob replicant? I’ve looked for differences but I’m not sure if there are any.

Ps is there a better place to pose questions like this?

    1. This is fine for these types of questions.

As for any differences, the story is being told in first-person, so you can only see what the character can see. Since Bob was the only version of himself available at the time, there’s no one to tell him he’s different. It may be that the especially anxious nature is a difference from the first incarnation. Or the tendency to get overly attached.

Instead finished my last book yesterday, started on All these worlds last night, continued today until I hit the “glitch” at chapter 63, panic a little, checked this site, re-downloaded, and now on 64. I think I will have finished by the end of today. Another cracking good book.

I picked up the first book after listening to the Dead Robots’ Society say great things about it. And then, this morning I was listening to the podcast of All in a Day Book Panel, Aug 8 from CBC Radio (think the Canadian version of NPR), and one of the books that the panel raved about was We Are Legion (We Are Bob).

Congrats for being recommended on Canadian radio.

Thanks for making the freeways of LA a better place Dennis. I’ve just been turned on to your books less than a week ago and have powered through all 3 of them via Audible while driving around California as a consultant. I’m sure there has been a lot less single finger salutes and bad vibrations from my various vehicles during the last week.

Great choice in Ray Porter as your narrator. He enhanced the experience as well.

I’ve been reading everything under the sun in the SciFi/Fantasy world for 40+ years and this is the only the second time I’ve felt compelled to spam high reviews across different platforms. Expect an up-tick in new reader arch types from the Laurel K Hamilton following through Destiny gaming forums sidecar discussions on forums and Reddit. Hello Mr. Taylor!

I’m a huge fan of the books, and as a fellow Bob there’s no way I couldn’t be.

    I had a few questions though…

    1. Now that all three books are out, I’d like to own them in paperback form. What is the best way to purchase them so that you earn the great amount of residuals? I know that Amazon takes a cut via Createspace, and I’d rather it goes into your pockets than that of a multi-national corporation.

    2. As a Vancouverite, I’ve always had a suspicion that original Bob was from Vancouver as well. I believe you made reference to a Sea Bus, and there were a few other hints. Maybe I’m just projecting though.

Thank you for writing the books!

    1. Yes, that was a seabus reference. At the time, I was taking the seabus twice a day, to and from North Van.

As for the books, Createspace is really the only way to get a paperback at the moment. I think I make slightly less per unit than I would with an e-book, but more than an audio book.

We’re also going to be putting out a hardcover signed limited-edition three-volume set at some point in the near future. Just negotiating with printers right now.

I loved the Bob series and really wish there was more (I know you say there will be no more BOB series books) have you had any discussions with studios for bringing BOB to a network or even a movie theater ?

I think BOB would work great at Netflix because of the format. I really dont think a movie would be able to show all of the little pieces of the story like a Series could. I think of Star Wars the same way too. Some stories need the time of a Series. I also want to thank you sharing your story with us. I know its hard to get all of it out on paper.

I am trying to get all the bits and pieces drawn together for a story of my own but its hard to get the transitions right to keep the reader into the story. Any helpful hints?

    1. Yes, don’t try to or expect to get it right on the first pass. People sometimes have a tendency to think that if they can’t get it perfect in the first draft, it’ll never get better. Not so. Just try to get down the main story-line in the first draft, and don’t consider even that to be set in stone. Legion went through at least a half-dozen full revisions plus any number of edit passes.

Great, so did your outline (If you wrote one) change dramatically or did you know the start, events and ending and set them in stone and build everything around them?

Thanks for the reply, its a real honor.

Your writing style reminds me of Ernest Cline’s work. Have you read anything he has written? I know its the same Genre but you’re less Pop concentric than he is.

My biggest problem is that I started writing 3 books and deployed to Afghanistan and now have a brain injury to show for it. So it’s harder for me to get my thoughts together. This is a double edged sword because now I have more time to write but its so much harder and my grammar is much worse. Oh well, just another facet to the diamond that is my life. By the time I am done, English will be a dead language.

        1. Legion started out in third person, then I decided that created too much distance. I was worried about multiple first-person POVs, but because it’s all the same person, people accepted it. I also didn’t initially have the VR concept, but the story began to feel too “talking heads”. I had the main story arcs set out, but a lot of the details evolved. Also, before Audible signed me, they gave a lot of free development editing advice.

When you’re reading about writing strategies, there’s a lot of talk of pantsers vs plotters, but it’s important to remember that it’s a continuum. You don’t have to be up against one peg or the other. If pantser is 0 and plotter is 100, I’m probably at the 60 point.

Re Ernest Cline, I’ve listened to Ready Player One on Audible. I can understand why that puppy is still in the top 10 on Audible, 6 years later.

I’m sorry about the brain injury thing. I can’t give you any advice on that, just encouragement. Writing has to be ultimately for you. Write the book that you’d like to have read.

            • Dan on August 15, 2017 at 1:29 am

I understand about adapting, I have written a couple short stories and they circulated in Afghanistan and it was weird when a Polish Commander asked me if it would be ok to translate it to Polish and he wanted my input on the translations. It was nice to have something that brought troops together and I was asked if there will be more several times but I was unable to finish the series because of my injury. I’m trying to get the VA to let me go back to school to take a writing class or two. I’ll have to see if they will though, its hard to explain that I want writing light Sci-fi to be my new career and that it would be able to sustain my living. They want to train welders and computer people, not writers.

I really like some of your story choices because you didnt take the easy way out by making day to day “Life” for the Bob’s easy, its more like a futuristic Odyssey and you made it even keeled instead of too optimistic or too dark. Your story even poked fun at itself a few times and I liked that.

BTW, Whats with the Geese and the Chair cushion remark? Did a Goose eat one of your Chairs at home and you decided to put it in? Cool Easter egg if so.

Thanks again for your advice, I talked to Stephen King Recently and he called me an A-Hole, classy guy there huh? I knew Tom Clancy when I was a kid, he was our insurance guy and I ended up at a Charity event as a caddy one Summer and he and I talked for the whole day, he’s the reason I started writing in the first place, I wanted to be a Comic Strip writer/Artist until Gary Trudeau told me that its a road to disappointment and there wasn’t money in it. I Caddied at an exclusive Potomac Maryland Golf Course near camp David and my Dad was a Washington Post Photographer so I got to meet tons of Writers and Politicians.

You seem like the most down to earth though. Most of the Stars Writers were trying to do their best Hemingway Impersonations. What were your biggest influences? I promise this isn’t an interview, I’m just a curious guy and I guess I’m asking what your other fans would like to know too.

          1. Canada Geese are a scourge here on the Lower Mainland. They really are as obnoxious as I make out. And fearless, since they’re a protected species here.

My favorite authors have been Niven, Heinlein, Asimov, and more recently Gould and McDevitt. I’ve liked a couple of books by Scalzi and Cline, but haven’t read enough of them to call them faves yet.

I just wanted to say that I found your Bob trilogy this year and this is without a doubt the best series I have read in the last 20 years. The way each of the Bobs is the same yet different, the world and story lines you’ve created, everything is just so fun to read. I got the books on audible due to a long commute I have and I find I now look forward to that time. I must say my nieces and nephews talk to me about wanting to go to Hogwarts but if I could jump into any world it would be yours (as a Bob obviously, I don’t envy the ephemerals their plight). Thank you for taking the time and effort to share your stories with us, I for one couldn’t be happier.

PS If you had any say on the narrator for your books, well done; I find Ray Porter to be fantastic in the part and all his voices are excellent in portraying the emotions you’re writing about.

These books are fantastic. I hope there are more to come. I could see a legion of writers using your newly created universe to get “fan stories” out there. The possibilities of this a limitless. People could write about a newly created “Bob”, as long as they know the parameters, it could be anything! I love sci-fi that is based more in the human experience. In this way, your books so spoke to me about humanity’s anthropologic norms as it did science and tech. I loved the characters, the way the universe is open ended, and the idea of new tech and new math. I love the possibility that AI might reach this level someday!

It is my hope that you will keep the Bobs alive for a new trilogy, or stand alone stories with in the three books already written. I almost would rather see the Bobs as an HBO season, but maybe movies would be good if they are done to the same detail as the LOR movie series or a Harry Potter series.

You really have a special idea that appeals to a huge number of fans of “feel-good but real” sci-fi-fi. Finally, I walked at least 400 miles listening to the three audiobooks. Thank you for these three books, I enjoyed them more than anyother audiobook I have listened to in years.

I was so behind the times. I just discovered this trilogy 5 days ago on Audible. I’ve had my headphones stuck on my head and after chewing through all 3 books over the weekend, I am already starting over.

Thank you so very much for the stories. All of the characters were very believable and I found myself emotionally attached to so many of them. Much like Bob, I found the science and technology content to be as addictive as Catnip.

Seriously, THANK YOU for creating this. PLEASE do not STOP. I need MORE. The cast of Bob’s have millions of light-years left to go on their odometers.

Also, I would be remiss if i did not put a word in on Ray Porter’s contribution to making the Bobiverse experience what i found it to be. If you make a movie, please consider him for the part of Bob.

    Thanks!

While I am a die hard sci fi reader, seldom do I come across a book or series that I simply enjoy beyond description. I count this BOB series amongst those by other writers such as the robot series by Asimov, the dragon riders of pern by Mccaffrey and the dark tower series by King. Well sir, well done.
I do hope to see far more books on the BOB universe. Three are simply not enough.
