Singularity Trap is out and doing well

Checking (obsessively) the stats this morning, and here’s what I’ve found:

Two books in the top ten on Amazon.

Second place overall on Audible, behind Bill Clinton.

Singularity Trap didn’t end on a cliffhanger, but can we expect more books from the same universe?

    1. Well, it is left open in terms of things that could happen.

I just discovered your Bobiverse books and I’m a few chapters away from finishing book 3 after just starting book one a week ago. I can’t get enough, but I’m too lazy to look for an answer. Will there be more Bobiverse books? I need more!

Just checking in to see if we can expect to see more of Ivan’s journey after the change and possibly the AI species? I’m getting ready to listen to The Singularity Trap again on Audible(3rd time) and want to say hi and great work!

        1. It will be a way down the road. I have two books currently in the queue (one actively working on)

Just bought the audiobook yesterday, and I’m loving it so far!

I do have a suggestion, though. I find that as I listen to new audiobooks, I tend to lose hold of the names of things and people in my mind. Would it be possible to have a list of characters, acronyms, and other important proper nouns made available to audiobook listeners? At this time, maybe it could be done through this site, but this isn’t really a “you” thing, and more of an audiobook thing in general. Maybe since you’re such an influential writer for audible, you could bring this up as a concern and maybe hash out ways it could be implemented for all sorts of audiobooks!

Anyway, great writing, and I’m looking forward to finishing this one. Likely again and again, as well 😀

    1. There is a cast of characters in the e-book. Should be easy enough to transfer to a post.

      Hey Chris and Dennis,
I’ve been listening to ‘Outlaw Platoon’ on Audible and they emailed me a link to a PDF download with basically all the maps and photos that were in the print version. So Audible should be able to support that for the Bobiverse … maybe? Pretty please? Maybe a Bobigenogram? 🙂

Just to explain … blame Ray Porter for narrating Outlaw Platoon, that’s what drew me away from the Taylorverse. But never fear, not for long!

mr. Taylor, since “We are Bob”, you’ve made the shortest list I have: “Authors whose work I’ll pre-order blind”
Currently, it consists of you and Neil Gaiman.

I finished “The Singularity Trap” yesterday and had to go back and start a relisten of the Bobiverse.

    Thank-you!

Deep into Singularity Trap right now after burning through the Bobiverse in record time….twice! Actually found myself hoping to get stuck in traffic so I could listen for longer on my daily commute.

New book already sounding good…no danger of the “difficult second album “syndrome here I’m happy to report, Singularity Trap is unique and distinct from WAL (WAB) but still has enough Dennis DNA to make it instantly recognisable to fans!

Ray Porter is once again the perfect choice for your style so kudos to whoever made that match!

Bob see’s all. Bob Knows all. All Hail Bob!

Really impressive work. The first 3 Bobiverse novels quickly became 3 of my favorite books but a small part of me wondered if they were a bit of a gimmick. By this I mean they structurally don’t look like many other books. Depending on how you view it there are either many iterations of a single main character or several independent main characters of which a few get major development arcs. In many cases I found the development of technology and exploration to be what drew me to the books as opposed to character development. This seemed like a touch formula to duplicate into future novels.

So I was truly blown away by the character arc of Ivan and how well he was written. He was an incredibly relatable character was artfully described as doing the best any well educated, a reasonable person would do in an extreme situation. The cool sci-fi was still there but I feel like this book had the character progression to match.

I both read and listen to my favorite books and I must compliment both your skill and luck in having the excellent Ray Porter as narrator. He is probably my single favorite narrator at communicating interpersonal interactions. He does a truly excellent job narrating the way people talk to each other in a meaningful and relatable way that adds an additional layer of humanity to everything he reads. He had some great material to work within this book both in the banter between characters and the description of interpersonal politics, that permeate every conversation when people of relative power communicate with each other.

I just want to say again what a great job you are doing and how impressive your body of work so far has been. You deserve your place as one of the best modern sci-fi writers.

Downloaded this on the first day of release and just finished it. Another great book!
Ray Porter was excellent again and was marvellous at portraying the female characters.

I really hope you’ll consider carrying on with the series.

Is it possible to put up a discussion thread with spoiler warnings, so that the fans who’ve finished already can talk about the implications of the ending?

Thanks Dennis for writing great hard sci-fi (and quickly too!). I’m so glad to be living in a future with you, Andy Weir and Alastair Reynolds exist. Just wanted to leave a note to say your work (all of your work so far, please write more soon!) was appreciated.

  1. I was fascinated by “We are Legion,” and now I’m enjoying “For we are Many.” But I was wondering do you have any books in Spanish? Do you plan to?

I have a website about Science Fiction in Spanish. And I’m thinking about doing a review for “We are Legion,” and I would like to give them some hope for a future translation, what do you say?

    1. I don’t currently have a Spanish translation. As far as I know, my agent has not been approached by a Spanish publisher. You could, of course, suggest it to one.

Right now I have German, French, Czech, Hungarian, Japanese, and Chinese translations.

I loved this book and the story!! I know you intended for it to be a stand alone (based off what I read elsewhere), but I would love to see where you would take the story in a series of books. I am left wanting more and hope you will reconsider making this into a series or at least write a 2nd book! 🙂

    Dennis,
I use to say to everyone that Douglas Adams was in a class by himself. After stumbling into the Bobiverce a year ago I had to rethink my stance on that. Your mixture of science fact, fiction and humor is exactly what i’ve missed since we lost Mr. Adams. I was enthralled by your exploration of the possibilities with the Von Neumann probes. Your exploration of Nash’s game theory in this new book is another home run. Can’t wait to see what you’ll be doing next. I’ll per order it sight unseen!

This title will be auto-delivered to your Kindle on October 5, 2018… So I still have to wait 2 months? I really want to read the book, not listen to it, doesn’t work for me even if it’s a good reader 🙁

Really looking forward to it though!! Please let me know if there’s another way to start reading the book sooner!

    1. No, the e-book release is Oct 5th. That’s contractual.

Just wondering if there’s going to be a Bobiverse 4 or Singularity Trap 2 coming any time soon? I just love your books so much! I read each about 25 times! 😉

    1. Currently working on the next 2 bobiverse books.

LOVED The Singularity Trap! I went through Audible and I’ve already listened 3 times. I haven’t played any audiobook 3 times. Can’t wait to see what Ivan experiences after his departure and what the makers are. Does the human race get uploaded? Do the ARTS reach Earth? So many questions!! Thank you for this Dennis E. Taylor!
